Experimental Process

Putative Fur binding sites were identified by screening N. meningitidis MC58 genome with Fur-box sequence of E. coli. DNase I footprinting was used to demonstrate binding of Fur to the predicted consensus binding sites. S1 nuclease protection assay showed that Fur activated the expression of its target promoters.

Gene Regulation

Regulated genes for each binding site are displayed below. Gene regulation diagrams show binding sites, positively-regulated genes, negatively-regulated genes, both positively and negatively regulated genes, genes with unspecified type of regulation. For each indvidual site, experimental techniques used to determine the site are also given.
