Experimental Process

Beta-gal reporter assay identified that CtrA can act as both a positive and a negative regulator of the fliQ, fliL, and hemE expression. The authors suggested that the function of CtrA may switch between positive and negative regulation as it expression changes during the cell cycle. DNase I footprinting experiment showed that CtrA protected a region in the fliQ promoter which contains a sequence resembling the CtrA binding motif.

Gene Regulation

Regulated genes for each binding site are displayed below. Gene regulation diagrams show binding sites, positively-regulated genes, negatively-regulated genes, both positively and negatively regulated genes, genes with unspecified type of regulation. For each indvidual site, experimental techniques used to determine the site are also given.
